First Production 2017 Acura NSX up for Auction

The all-new 2017 Acura NSX is being built to order with deliveries beginning this spring, but for those who just can’t wait, the first 2017 Acura NSX off the assembly line will be auctioned off in January.

Acura, Honda’s luxury brand, has announced that orders for the supercar can be placed starting February 25, 2016. The online configurator won’t be live until then either.

There is one way you can get a jump on the waiting line for the all-new NSX if you’ve got the bankroll for it. The very first 2017 Acura NSX produced is to be auctioned off at the 2016 Barrett-Jackson auction in late January in Scottsdale, Arizona.

While it’s not immediately clear which configuration VIN 001 will be, even the base model will be enough to wow the winner of the auction.

It’s all for a good cause as the proceeds from the auction will go to benefit both the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation and Camp Southern Ground.

The Acura NSX will be made in limited numbers, with about 800 being produced for the 2017 model year. Each one will be made to order—aside from VIN 001—and will have a massive price range of $157,800 to $207,800 depending on the options selected.

For those that consider the price outrageous, be assured that the $1,800 destination fee has been included in that price. Being the first to own a 2017 Acura NSX will demand a premium price to be certain. While the expected number to bang the gavel hasn’t been reported, it should have no problem clearing $300,000.

The iconic Acura supercar is nothing short of amazing in every capacity. Its powertrain is a 3.5-liter twin turbo V-6 with all-wheel drive. That all-wheel drive is courtesy of two electric motors mounted at the front wheels while the V-6 powers the rear wheels via a direct-drive motor. The rear differential is limited-slip, so power can be controlled to all four wheels individually for the most effective traction in any condition or tight corner.  It combines for an astounding 573 horsepower that is sure to put it in the running with other Italian supercars.

The gearbox is a nine-speed dual-clutch transmission with paddle shifters as one would expect competing with the likes of the Lamborghini Huracan or the Ferrari 458. The 2017 NSX is expected to pull a 0-60 mile per hour time of 3.0 seconds.

While the price tag is a little heftier than you’d expect to see on a common car brand such as Acura, the experience will leave you breathless. Anticipate this Acura will set the standard for entry-level supercar performance with luxurious appointments to boot.
