Jaguar Unveils New E-Pace with Monster Barrel Roll

London – The new Jaguar E-Pace made an epic debut on to the global stage. The compact performance SUV nailed a Guinness World Record 50-foot-long jump, complete with a 270-degree corkscrew-like “barrel roll.”

The feat was the final test for the E-Pace after 25 months of work across four continents to test extreme durability. Jaguar wanted the stunt to demonstrate the agility, precision and performance of the newest Jaguar SUV. They succeeded.

The Jaguar E-Pace is a five-seat, compact SUV. Further, it packs the design and performance of a Jaguar sports car into a practical and connected all-wheel drive vehicle. It joins the all-electric I-Pace Concept and the Jaguar F-Pace, the 2017 World Car of the Year winner.

The F-Pace SUV has proven to be a popular car. It has sold more than 80,000 units globally. So it isn’t surprising that Jaguar wanted to make another SUV available.

Similar to the E-Pace debut, the F-Pace was launched in 2015 with a Guinness World Record-setting loop-the-loop.

F-Pace Inspired Design

The Jaguar E-Pace design is inspired by the Jaguar F-Type sports car. As such, it’s characterized by the distinctive Jaguar grille, muscular proportions, short overhangs and powerful haunches.

Jaguar sports car DNA is also evident in the fast sweep of the roof line and the recognizable side window design.

“Established Jaguar design principles ensure the E-PACE is immediately recognizable as the sports car of its class,” Jaguar design director Ian Callum said in a statement. “Our new compact SUV combines the interior space, connectivity and security that families expect with the kind of proportions, purity of design and performance not usually associated with such a practical vehicle.”

The Jaguar E-Pace is also available as a R-Dynamic model, which further enunciates its high-performance character.

The E-Pace and E-Pace R-Dynamic come available in Standard, S, SE and HSE trims. The standard E-Pace gets a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder Ingenium gasoline turbocharged powertrain that delivers 246 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque.

The R-Dynamic has a 2.0-liter turbo four capable of 296 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Each come with a nine-speed automatic transmission.

The standard E-Pace has all-time all-wheel drive and an intelligent torque control system to keep slippage to a minimum. But the R-Dyanmic has a more advanced Active Driveline system, which switches from front-wheel to all-wheel drive in just 300 milliseconds if any slip is detected. It can also detect a change in the road’s condition.

The starting price comes in at $38,600 for the basic model. However, the E-PACE R-Dynamic variant starts at $47,250.
