To honor Marco Wittmann’s winning of the DTM driver’s title in the 2016 season finale at the Hockenheimring, BMW has announced the BMW M4 DTM Champion Edition.

A Fitting Tribute

This ultimate version of the M4 is a track-focused collector’s item with 500 horsepower. This is an increase of 69 horsepower over the garden variety M4. A limited edition of 200 units will be produced for worldwide consumption.

Power To Burn (Rubber)

The BMW M4 DTM Champion Edition completes the sprint from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.8 seconds. Top speed is “limited” to 190 mph. This level of performance is generated through the use of water injection technology featured in the straight six-cylinder power unit from the BMW M4 GTS. Cooling of the combustion chambers with this technology raises the engine’s performance limits. A 16 percent increase in power output vs. the production model is the result.

BMW Motorsport-Inspired Exterior Design

The BMW M4 DTM Champion Edition is exclusively available in Alpine White, with traditional red and blue BMW Motorsport striping. . Various aerodynamics components are finished in visible carbon for that “race car” look. These include the front splitter, the aero flicks in front of the front wheel arches, exterior mirror caps, side skirt attachments, a rear diffuser, and the large rear wing mounted on the trunk lid.

A Stripped-Down, Race Style Interior

Inside, the BMW M4 DTM Champion Edition is a two-seater. Both driver and co-driver sit in Carbon bucket seats covered in Alcantara and leather. The entire interior is lined with Alcantara. The same material is also used on the M Sports steering wheel. Behind the front bucket seats, a white rollover bar replaces the rear seat.

Comfort and safety features include navigation, air conditioning, adaptive LED headlights, OLED taillights, and Park Distance Control front and rear.

Lightweighting for Enhanced Dynamics

Compared to the production version of the BMW M4, the DTM Champion Edition has a carbon fiber hood, roof, instrument panel support and rear diffuser. The final muffler of the double-flow sports exhaust system is made of lightweight titanium.

Contact with the road is provided by Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 high-performance tires, size 265/35 R19 at the front and 285/30 R20 at the rear. These are designed specifically for use on the track and are mounted on matte-finished light alloys. Carbon-ceramic brakes give fade-free braking, even in racing conditions. Individually adjustable 3-way coilovers allow the car’s handling to be adjusted to the driver’s preference.

BMW M4 DTM Champion Edition Priced At $96,935 More Than An M4!

The BMW M4 DTM Champion Edition is limited to 200 units worldwide. It is available now and is priced at 148,500 Euros in Germany, which at current exchange rates is $163,135. Dedicated BMW collectors will likely snap them all up. In terms of value, though, keep in mind that for that amount, you could buy 2 standard M4 coupes and have $30,000 left to spend on upgrades. Choose wisely!
