New York International Auto Show: These 8 Cars Are Hogging the Spotlight

The New York International Auto Show is one of the biggest automotive events every year. Car manufacturers break out their big guns, unveiling the models they believe are the best and brightest vehicles yet to be released.This year at the 2017 New York International Auto Show, you absolutely will not be disappointed. Here are a few vehicles that are really stealing all the attention.Dodge Challenger SRT DemonYes, it's here. The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon has returned and it is way more badass than you ever imagined. The numbers are staggering: 840 horsepower and 770 lb-ft of torque from a supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI Demon V8 engine. Its 2.3 seconds 0-to-60 time blows the doors off any other production car. Even more, it has a 9.65 seconds quarter-mile time. So it's banned from the drag strip by NRHA for going too fast without a roll cage.The Dodge Demon has swamped your social media feed, and for good reason. It’s a first in many things including the first production car to lift the front wheels (nearly 3 feet). It comes with a complimentary day at Bob Bondurant driving school, so you can learn how to control it. It’s one mean muscle car.Lincoln NavigatorThe Lincoln Navigator is all-new for 2018. Just to mention how well-received this luxury SUV is: it received a best-in-show award. According to those with the privilege to sit inside, it makes the Cadillac Escalade look like a plasticky play toy.The interior of the Navigator on display is a silvery-blue color, which is a fresh update from all the cream and black leathers you see in most cars. Power comes from a twin-turbo EcoBoost V6, likely the same one from the Ford F150. That means around 450 horsepower and a silky-smooth 10-speed automatic transmission.Genesis GV80 ConceptThe luxury brand that sprung out of Hyundai needs an SUV. The Genesis GV80 is destined to fill that role, although it's not decisively a production model. It’s a hydrogen fuel cell concept SUV, and although details are still scarce about the powertrain capabilities, you can rest assured Genesis won’t settle for underpowered.Inside it’s an impressive feat of technology. A set of haptic sensors are used to control the audio, navigation and climate controls, all conveniently displayed on a curved 22-inch screen atop the dash. That's right, a 22-inch screen.Subaru AscentFinally, Subaru has confirmed the return of a seven-seater SUV. And no, it won’t be as awful as the Tribeca. In fact, the Subaru Ascent is a taller, stocky-looking SUV and not minivan-esque.Subaru has also settled on the engine they’ll pack into the Ascent. It’s set to be a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder, which may be slightly underpowered for the segment. Inside, however, it’s a new experience. The driver has a nice touchscreen display for infotainment and HVAC controls. In the backseat, there’s a separate touchscreen for rearseat climate controls. And overhead, a massive panoramic moonroof lets in the light.Subaru officials believe the all-new seven-seater can woo customers away from more established SUVs, like the Ford Explorer and Honda Pilot. Subaru will manufacture the Ascent SUV in Lafayette, Ind., exclusively for the North American market.Jeep Grand Cherokee TrackhawkIf there’s one thing FCA is bad at, it’s keeping new models under wraps. We’ve known about the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk development for a long time, but it’s finally being shown. At first glance, it’s a slightly tricked-out body kit on a standard Grand Cherokee.Oh, but it’s what’s under the hood that counts. The Hellcat powertrain – a supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8 with 707 horsepower – is neatly snuggled under the hood. So this is now the fastest production SUV ever built, thanks to those speed freaks at FCA.Jaguar F-PaceIt’s already won the title of World Car of the Year. The Jaguar F-Pace, a luxury performance SUV, isn’t a fresh release like some of the others, but it’s definitely worth noting. Think ultra-dynamic customizable instrument cluster, supple and supportive two-tone leather interior, and an utterly silent and comfortable cabin.It’s about to warm your cockles, though. Your base engine is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 247 horsepower and AWD. The upgraded option is a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 with 380 rubber-peeling horsepower. It's safe to say, Jaguar did a fantastic job on its first SUV.Toyota FT-4X ConceptDon’t mistake the rugged looks as a successor to the ultra-capable FJ Cruiser. The Toyota FT-4X is less off-road capable and more urban cruiser. It’s said to use a small-displacement engine, and the independent suspension at all four corners means it doesn’t have locking differentials. It does have a selectable low range, and manual 4WD, but only for occasional use if any.However, it’s what you’ll find indoors that is most pleasing. The Toyota FT-4X has a North Face sleeping bag tucked into the console. There is cold storage in the cargo area. And the back door is dual action. It lifts up like a liftgate or opens like barn doors. It's nifty stuff, but a more durable powertrain would be good.Hyundai SonataLet’s take it mainstream for our final entry. The Hyundai Sonata has a new look for its eight-generation model. The designers nailed the textbook sedan shape. From body lines and swept-back headlights to its bulging hood, the Sonata has certainly taken a step forward.Everything has just tightened up inside. From the dash and instrument cluster to the infotainment system, it just works really well together. Hyundai adds features to the 2018 Sonata that include standard Blind Spot Monitoring, available Lane Departure Preventing Steering and an available Qi-compatible wireless charging station.
