Movie Cars: Check Out the Best Rides from Hollywood in 2015

The year 2015 was massive for the box office, with monstrous movie releases like Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Jurassic World, Furious 7, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part II, and the latest double-oh-seven film, Spectre. Just over $11 billion—yes, billion—was spent on this single form of visual entertainment and the trend appears that the industry is growing quickly.It’s no wonder that the cars used in movies are becoming a feature unto themselves. Movie makers aren’t just finding the cheapest options when it comes to cars they use in their flicks, even if the cars are going to be completely destroyed. In fact, there are several movies just this year that have had cars manufactured just for their movie, and nothing else.Other films feature specific brands that give a strong impression that advertising dollars have been thrown around. Take the BMW presence in Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation for instance. Just a bit of a Bimmer plug, don’t you say?Feast your eyes on the top movie cars of 2015, in no particular order:Aston Martin DB10 – SpectreBarely breaking half the sales of Furious 7, 2015’s offering of James Bond is far from the top earner in the past year. The car, however, is a different story. Aston Martin was commissioned to build 10 bespoke cars known as the DB10 with their 4.7-liter engine and 6-speed manual transmission. Aston Martin took it as a marketing opportunity, stating that the DB10 gives Spectre viewers a glimpse into future developments from Aston Martin. Eight of the cars were used in movie production and two were used for promotional purposes, meaning there are at least a couple out there that aren’t destroyed.Interceptor – Mad Max: Fury RoadIn the latest installment of the apocalyptic films, car designs are functional killing machines adapted for use in the sand and dunes. Any one of the movie cars could have made the cut but, this time, it’s the Interceptor. It’s a throwback to the original Mad Max movie as well, with the xb Falcon running wild, offroad in the desert. The car itself is pieced together in appearance. In actual fact, it was built from Falcon parts completely! The car build began in 2003 but halted a couple of times due to production delays. It took nearly a decade before three Interceptors were born for Mad Max: Fury Road.Tartan Prancer – VacationThe ridiculous movie required a ridiculous vehicle. The Tartan Prancer features the most bizarre and unnecessary enhancements including martini glass-holders, plug-in hybrid/gasoline/diesel technology, a drinking fountain, and a CB radio to name just a few things. The key fob could be the solution to world peace with twenty-some buttons, and can even detach the steering wheel with the simple press of one of those buttons. The “Honda of Albania” as it’s referred to in the film looks to be possibly a Toyota Previa…possibly.Lykan Hypersport – Furious 7The seventh movie in the Fast and Furious saga was more than just a tribute film for Paul Walker. The cars in the film are smokin’ hot including the Lykan Hypersport. The Arab-built cars aren’t actually used in the movie as they are $3.4 million each, but the body molds were borrowed from W Motors, the UAE car company that manufactures them. The true Hypersport has a 3.7-liter flat-six engine with twin turbochargers that churns out 770 horsepower, accelerates from 0-60 miles per hour in 2.8 seconds and has a top speed of 239 mph. It’s a good thing they didn’t use a Lykan original – there are only four ever built, and the one in the movie gets obliterated jumping between skyscrapers.Jaguar C-X75 – SpectreThe Aston Martin has a screen mate built by Jaguar. The C-X75 is another true model though it is a concept car. It has four electric motors that propel it, and the batteries are recharged using diesel micro-turbine engines. Jaguar touts it as the future of technology, and the car itself is nothing short of amazing. With 778 horsepower, it’s bound to be a rocket on land should it ever get past concept stage. Teetering on the edge of $1.5 million, the car was cut from production a few years back because of the global economic crisis. That’s really too bad.BMW M3 – Mission Impossible: Rogue NationBMW lends several vehicles to this flick, and they never get them back, to be sure. There is more vehicle carnage in this movie than any other, including the M3 that Tom Cruise’s character abuses beyond imagination. BMW motorcycles and an X5 driven by co-star Jeremy Renner are speckled throughout the movie, most of them exploding or falling out of the sky at some point or another. The M3 isn’t a spectacular model per se that it demands being mentioned, but the movie warrants a mention or sure. Perhaps the only better advertisement for a car company would be as a body shop.Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe – Jurassic WorldDinosaurs share the spotlight in this follow-up blockbuster as the Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 AMG Sport Coupe pops up. Mercedes did the same thing in 1997 when they unveiled the M-Class SUV on the first Jurassic Park movie. Now, the car is even more attractive and maybe catches a little more of moviegoers’ attention than 18 years ago. The sharply-styled, slant back design is eye-catching and the real-life car is quite nice in an attainable kind of way. It has a 3.0-liter biturbo engine with 362 horsepower and a 9-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters and hugs the road with an innovative 4-wheel drive system that is performance-oriented.Audi TTS – Avengers: Age of UltronAudi took the chance to promote their Audi TTS in the newest Avengers movie. The car is mild in comparison with some of the aforementioned cars, but the four rings on the front of the car still draw the gaze of the crowds. The TTS is another attainable car and is maybe even a little lackluster with only 292 horsepower. The updated TT lineup has sharper lines and great new features but Audi could have found a nicer car to feature in a movie… maybe an R8 concept?
