New Honda CR-V: More Space And More Power
Honda has revealed its all-new, fifth-generation CR-V. This vehicle has been America’s best-selling SUV for the past 20 years.
The Lowdown on the New Honda CR-V
The new Honda CR-V boasts new styling, a more spacious interior, and the CR-V’s first-ever turbocharged engine. American buyers have purchased nearly 4 million CR-Vs since its 1997 launch.
New Honda CR-V Design
The new Honda CR-V features aggressive stylized headlights surrounded by a wing-shaped LED DRL array. The longer wheelbase has produced an increase in interior space, with the best rear seat legroom in its class.
The new Honda CR-V’s appearance includes LED headlights on the Touring trim. The CR-V also has an Active Shutter Grille that lowers aerodynamic drag, uprated aluminum alloy wheels and narrower A-pillars for improved visibility. Honda has finally added its first Hands-Free Access Power Tailgate. This lets you open and close the tailgate with a foot-activated sensor located under the rear of the vehicle.
New Turbo Powertrain
In EX and higher trims, the new Honda CR-V will feature the model’s first ever turbocharged engine. This is a 1.5-liter DOHC, direct-injected and turbocharged in-line 4-cylinder rated at 190 horsepower. Combined with improved aerodynamics, the Honda CR-V is one of the most fuel efficient SUVs in its class. LX trims will be powered by the existing 2.4-liter DOHC, direct-injected engine. Both engines will be mated to a CVT.
Chassis Upgrades
The 2017 CR-V provides added ground clearance. Its front MacPherson strut and rear multi-link suspension uses specially tuned low-friction dampers, with tubular front and solid rear stabilizer bars for flatter cornering. Dual-pinion, variable ratio Electric Power Steering contributes to the CR-V’s direct steering feel.
New Connectivity
The CR-V offers a 7-inch touchscreen Display Audio interface that features the return of the physical volume knob. The CR-V ‘s Display Audio system is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This allows for seamless integration of key smartphone features and functions.
Comfort & Convenience
Many comfort and convenience features are available on the new CR-V. These include remote engine start, dual-zone climate controls, heated side mirrors, an Electric Parking Brake, rear USB charging ports, front passenger seat with 4-way power adjustment and driver’s seat with 8-way power adjustment and 4-way power lumbar support and heated front seats.
Advanced Safety and Driver-Assistive Technology
The 2017 CR-V offers Honda Sensing as standard equipment on EX and higher trims. Honda Sensing includes:
- Collision Mitigation Braking with Forward Collision Warning & Pedestrian Sensing Capability
- Road Departure Mitigation with Lane Departure Warning
- Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-speed Follow & Lane Keeping Assist
- Blind Spot Information
- Rear Cross Traffic Monitor
- Auto High Beam Headlights
Safety Cred Aplenty
The 2017 CR-V has received an NCAP 5-star Overall Vehicle Score from the NHTSA. It has a TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. This includes a SUPERIOR rating for frontal crash prevention when equipped with Honda Sensing.
