2017 Nissan Armada

The Nissan Armada is a great middle ground between utility and luxury. Let’s call it premium class. It looks way better now than its previous generation, having actual curves and such with bits of chrome. Each one has a 5.6-liter V8 with 390 horsepower and drinks pump fuel faster than Barney bellied up to the bar. Definitely not one of the most fuel efficient SUVs out there.

The Armada can be modestly equipped with normal power functions and a few extras like Rear Sonar, Bose Audio and Navigation, up to its full-tilt Platinum package with tri-zone Entertainment system and auto climate control among others. The cabin size is the same in any case, with a total of 95.4 cubic feet. There’s a downside, though – with the second and third-row seats up, cargo space is trimmed to only 16.5 cubic feet.

2017 Ford Expedition EL

It’s long in the tooth where looks come into play. The Ford Expedition EL (meaning Extended Length) is rather boring to look at and doesn’t have the wow factor inside. Just one engine choice is available, the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, and it comes in either 2WD or 4WD. But it’s not meant to go off-road per se, and it probably won’t see towing duty often either.

It’s a people carrier and a cargo hauler, and it can do both at the same time. That’s thanks to its spacious interior, holding 130.8 cubic feet of cargo behind the front seats, which makes it the biggest SUV in that category. Even with all three rows of seating upright, there’s still 42.3 cubic feet of cargo volume to use. If you don’t need bells and whistles, the Expedition EL is quite sufficient.

2017 Toyota Sequoia

There’s only one monster SUV that has all the vowels in its name (the jury is out on ‘Y’ still), and that’s the Sequoia. Count them, they’re all there. As if that’s not enough claim to fame, the Toyota Sequoia is one of the the 10 biggest SUVs out there today. Looking at the Sequoia and the Tundra side by side, you can see where the SUV has its heritage.

Inside, the 2017 Toyota Sequoia is well-appointed but not overdone. Entune Audio, an available rear-seat entertainment package, available leather interior and some fantastic Toyota driver assist features are found inside. That goes along with the 120.1 cubic feet of cargo space behind the front seat, which is impressive. Unfortunately, great leg space for all rear-seat passengers trims down on cargo capacity behind the third row, coming in at just 18.9 cubic feet.
